Atrium

The first room we enter in the House of the Vettii is the atrium. The hole in the roof, called the compluvium, allowed rainwater to fill the pool, or impluvium, below.
To protect the paintings, this villa has been skillfully reconstructed. By reproducing within the house its shadows and lights, the genuine atmosphere of a real Pompeian home has been recreated.
