False prophets

Those religious groups who claim to foretell the future can be exposed as false if they fail a simple test. According to Deuteronomy 18:22, if their prophecies fail, God has not spoken through them. Those who were preaching that the Persian Gulf war would result immediately in the end of time can now be seen as false prophets. If they were "mistaken" about this, why shouldn't one believe that they are misleading people away from God? Why do intelligent men and women continue to attend churches where these liars are still preaching?
A movement built upon false prophecies and failed predictions cannot be from God. Such "churches" must make Satan very happy as they blind people to the truth.
