ANIMAL BITES

Is there uncontrolled bleeding?
Are the edges of the skin gaping open?
Is it possible that the animal has rabies?
Was this a snake bite?
Does the wound appear to be infected?

ACTIVITIES:  Clean the wound with soap and LOTS of water.  Hold firm pressure over the wound with a clean cloth till the bleeding stops. Keep the area clean. It may be necessary to keep the animal penned up to observe for rabies or contact the health department.

MEDICATIONS: You need a Tetanus Shot if it has been more than 5 years since your last one.  You may take Tylenol or Motrin for minor pain.  Most bites do not require antibiotics. (Human bites often get infected and an antibiotic is generally needed.)

DIET:  You may eat anything you desire.

CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR FOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. You cannot control bleeding.
2. Any infection develops.
3. The wound does not seem to be healing properly.
